Who are LGW's members?

They are leaders in their organizations, serving in roles such as President, Vice President, Executive Director, CEO, Publisher, Director, Manager, Mayor and County Council Member. In a recent survey, one third of LGW's members manage budgets of over $12 billion/year and employ nearly 400,000 of the five million people in the Greater Washington region.


How are LGW members involved in the Greater Washington community?

LGW members constitute a powerful presence in the community. And just looking at 30% of members, they serve on over 250 board of directors of organizations in the region. Furthermore, graduates of the program are better equipped to affect positive change throughout the region because they have a greater understanding of the area's political, social, financial and institutional structures and a network of support from their Leadership Greater Washington friends.


When was Leadership Greater Washington created?

Leadership Greater Washington was founded in 1986 by 18 dedicated members of the Greater Washington region and co-founded by The Greater Washington Board of Trade and the Junior League.

How does LGW work with other community leadership groups in the region?

LGW maintains a collaborative relationship with Leadership Montgomery, Leadership Fairfax, Leadership Alexandria and Leadership Arlington, whose combined membership called "Greater Washington's Leadership," aims to have at least one event together per year. Additionally, executives from each program share best-practices and programming ideas for continued growth.


How is Leadership Greater Washington funded?

Leadership Greater Washington is funded through corporate sponsorship and foundation grants. The Community Catalyst Sponsor Freddie Mac/Freddie Mac Foundation provides extensive funding over a six year span. Circle of Leader Sponsors, of which there are 15, are annual opportunities for sponsorship that amount to a $15,000 contribution and goes toward supporting the administrative functions of the organization. Foundation grants provide support for programs and help to secure our financial infrastructure.

How can I support Leadership Greater Washington?

LGW is always in need of program day sponsors, program day hosts, underwriters for the luncheon and dinner, award sponsors for the annual awards dinner and through table sponsorship at major events.



How large is Leadership Greater Washington's staff?

LGW is staffed by six full-time professionals who oversee the programming, communications, membership activities, finances and funding of the organization.
