LGW Leadership Exchange Program


Since 2015, Leadership Greater Washington has embarked on a series of trips dedicated to connecting LGW Members to prominent leadership programs on a national and international level.


The Leadership Exchange Program facilitates a space for members to gain insight concerning the issues leaders encounter within their communities and the strategies executed to improve the quality of life for individuals living and working in those areas.

LGW heads to Leadership Greater Chicago

As part of our ongoing partnership with Leadership Greater Chicago, LGW Members head to the Windy City each year. The Chicago Leadership Exchange features a multi-session program crafted to encourage members to connect with Chicago’s top leaders over shared issues including economic and workforce development, immigration, education, and ensuring public safety through reduction of crime and violence. In addition to cultivating relationships through thought-provoking dialogue, members enjoy what the historic city of Chicago has to offer.

Leadership Exchange to Cuba

Spearheaded by the Class of 2014, LGW Members organized a Leadership Exchange program to Cuba, including members from a wide range of class years and leadership backgrounds. The goal of the program was to and tour to survey the political, economic, social, and cultural landscapes of Cuba ahead of normalizing relations with the United States. Members participated in discussions with local leaders, traversed the neighborhoods and communities of the Cuban people and explored Cuban customs and traditions from, food, to historical figures, to nightlife.

Leadership Greater Chicago travels to DC

LGW’s Leadership Exchange Program offers special events hosted in partnership with other leadership organizations from around the region and in other major metropolitan areas focused on building connections around shared challenges and opportunities. As part of our ongoing partnership with Leadership Greater Chicago, LGW hosts LGC’s Fellows every fall.

This past year, LGC Chicago fellows visited the White House, Newseum, at Washington Post headquarters and participated in a sneak peak of the new Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Fellows attended panel overview of several important initiatives focused on the prevention of urban violence, rebuilding trust in law-enforcement, abating the school-to-prison pipeline, addressing racial-profiling, and strengthening communities through educational support to at-risk minority youth. Read more:
