LGW MEMBERS MENTOR YOUNG MINDS WITH URBAN ALLIANCE

October 2, 2017

This September, LGW partnered with Urban Alliance for Community Service Day sponsored by IBM. Under the leadership of Executive Director, Nathaniel Cole ('16), Urban Alliance partners with businesses to empower under-resourced youth to aspire, work and succeed through paid internships, formal training, and mentorship.

Following an overview of the organization's history and mission, volunteers were paired up with Urban Alliance alumni (students who successfully completed the Urban Alliance High School Internship Program) for a 45-min one-on-one mentoring, resume/cover letter review, and discussion around professional coaching and workforce development.

100% of Urban Alliance’s alumni graduate high school on time and over 75% of program alumni remain “connected” to a pathway, including college, employment or a career training program, one year after completing Urban Alliance. Through the alumni internship program, students secure paid internships during the summer and attend events year-round dedicated to networking, career coaching, and mentorship.

LGW members provided a balanced conversation for alumni, creating a safe space where a budding young professional could hear from regional leaders and executives first hand, regarding career successes, leadership advice and feedback on professional strategies.

Mr. Cole, an alumnus of Urban Alliance is encouraging LGW members to get plugged into the fabric of the region to lift young people upward and forward. Through conversations with our members, Urban Alliance alumni will be positioned in the best place for professional success while staying connected to LGW members for mentorship and support.

Thank you to Urban Alliance for your partnership, our sponsor IBM for making LGW’s Community Service Day series possible, and to our amazing members for volunteering your time and talents this morning.
