Meet our 2021 YLGW Scholarship Recipients

November 24, 2020

The Youth Leadership Greater Washington (YLGW) program provides leadership training to youth leaders while raising their voices around critical issues in the region. Thanks to the generosity of corporate and individual sponsors, youth leaders participate in the program tuition-free.

Each program year, the LGW member-led Maxine R. Baker Scholarship Fund provides college scholarship support for two youth leaders who complete the program. We are proud to announce this year's outstanding scholarship recipients:

Ellee (left) is currently a junior at Elizabeth Seton High School. Her favorite classes are LEAD (learning engineering and design) and AP Chemistry because she likes to problem solve on her feet. Outside of school, she does gymnastics, she is a level 9 gymnast and practices for 4 hours every day. She lives with her mom and has a sister who attends the University of Pittsburgh. Ellee works part-time at her gym, teaching children recreational gymnastics. Her favorite things to do on weekends are to read books and bake.

Charli (right) resides in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and lives with her parents, grandmother, and older brother. Charli is a Junior at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in DC. At Duke Ellington, Charli is a member of the Concert Choir and performs in the Vocal Department’s vocal productions. Charli aspires to be a professional vocalist. She has competed and placed in vocal at local, state, and regional competitions. Charli recently released a self-produced album titled “A Poem About a Butterfly.”  Charli is an active member at her church where she serves on the Youth Ministry and sings in the Youth Choir.
