Recap: LGW Class of 2021 Closing Retreat

June 30, 2021

The LGW Closing Retreat at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Central Library on June 17 was the opportunity to connect our Class of 2021 had been yearning for. The retreat was a joyous reunion, a source of inspiration, and, for most who attended their first in-person event in more than 16 months. We were honored to officially induct them into the LGW membership.

In expressing their gratitude for each other, the Class members used words like "family," "community," "togetherness," "affirmation," "gratitude," and "belonging." Members reflected on how their trajectories have changed as a result of their experience in the Signature Program. They collectively expressed their commitment to build upon their new relationships and drive positive community impact in the DC region together.

The safe space the Class of 2021 created during the past year was a wellspring of support in those volatile times.

We are proud to announce our Class Representatives joining the LGW Board of Directors, Indira Henard (’21), Executive Director of the DC Rape Crisis Center, and Carlyn Madden (’21), founder and CEO of Good Insight. Mitch Weintraub ('21), Managing Partner of Cordia Partners, will also join the LGW Board of Directors as a 2021 Chair's Appointment. Julie Green ('21), CEO of New Futures, will serve as their Social Chair and Emika Abe ('21) Managing Director of Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company will serve as Class Connector.

Their official Class name is "Resilient 21." Please enjoy our photo montage of the 2021 Closing Retreat above.

If you are an active member please take a moment to send a member of the Class a kind word of congratulations. You can now find their contact information on our online member portal The Connector.
