CEO & Founder
Carlyn Madden is the founder and CEO of Good Insight, a consulting firm supporting nonprofit leaders and boards with executive searches, succession planning, and governance. She believes that good leadership is the solution for community-driven transformational change. Carlyn started her career in philanthropy at The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, followed by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Her experience spans issues across education, health, community service, and the arts. As a business leader and committed volunteer, Carlyn is passionate about connecting people with community causes. She has held numerous roles on local boards and committees focused on advancing the region’s nonprofits. In 2019, she founded the Next Gen Giving Circle to introduce nearly 90 mid-career professionals to local philanthropy. She holds a BA from Emory University and an MA from The George Washington University. She is a certified BoardSource governance trainer, was named to WACIF’s 2018 class of Ascend Accelerator entrepreneurs, and is a member of ArtTable. Carlyn has deep roots in the DC region and is the fifth generation of her family to live off DC’s H Street NE corridor. She enjoys exploring cultures through art, food and travel. She and her husband, a Foreign Service Officer, were posted to Berlin, Germany from 2014 to 2016.
