Kathleen McMahon joined Northern Virginia Family Services (NVFS) in 2019 as Executive Vice President of Development and Communications. Throughout her career, Kathleen has been passionate about strengthening mission-driven organizations that advance youth development, volunteerism, workforce development, education, mentoring, and community impact. As both a nonprofit executive and dedicated volunteer leader, she has focused on building organizational capacity, cultivating strategic partnerships, and expanding resources to support lasting change.
Prior to joining NVFS, Kathleen held leadership roles at several nonprofit organizations and social enterprises, including the Student Conservation Association (SCA) and the policy research firm Civic, where she served as Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer. Earlier in her career, she led fundraising, program development, and partnership initiatives at Spark the Journey, WAVE, and the Points of Light Foundation.
Kathleen graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Syracuse University and earned a master’s degree in Nonprofit Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. She is also a member of Leadership Greater Washington’s Class of 2022 and currently serves as Co-Chair of the Board for PACE Parenting Education.
