Shayla Hines-Graham is a dynamic arts management professional with a strong foundation in the performing arts and a proven record of success in fundraising, development, and strategic leadership. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Recording Arts from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and a Master of Arts in Arts Management from George Mason University.
Shayla’s career began with development roles at renowned institutions including the Washington National Opera, DC Jazz, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Her expertise in donor engagement and fundraising strategy led her to the American Film Institute (AFI), where she served as Advancement Manager for the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, Maryland.
In 2015, Shayla joined Chorus America as Associate Director of Development, where she led national fundraising efforts, securing nearly $700,000 annually in support from corporate, foundation, government, and individual donors. Her leadership contributed to the organization’s fiscal growth and strengthened its position as a vital resource for choruses across North America.
Shayla’s commitment to the performing arts continued at Arena Stage, where she became Director of Institutional Relations in 2019. Under her direction, the institutional giving team raised over $2 million annually. She also played a key role in Arena Stage’s equity and inclusion initiatives, championing efforts to foster an anti-racist and welcoming arts environment. In 2022, she was selected to serve on the Artistic Director Search Committee, collaborating with board members and playwright Karen Zacarías. In recognition of her leadership, Shayla was promoted to Interim Chief Development Officer in November 2024, where she oversaw Arena Stage’s $7 million fundraising portfolio.
An advocate for arts education and civic engagement, Shayla served on the Board of Directors and Advisory Council for the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras at Strathmore and Theatre Washington, furthering her commitment to supporting the regional arts community. Shayla is a member of Leadership Montgomery’s inaugural Emerging Leaders class of 2015.
She resides in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, with her husband, daughter, and dog. Outside of work, she enjoys singing in her church choir, gardening, cooking, traveling, attending performances, and spending quality time with family and friends.
