Bringing together more than 650 of the region’s most accomplished leaders from the business, government, and nonprofit sectors, the LGW Celebration of Leadership serves as the largest celebration of diverse, cross-sector changemakers in our region. This year, LGW will proudly honor Diane Tipton (’98), Co-founder, CEO, and President, Self Storage Zone, with the 2022 LGW Leader of the Years award. Her commitment to building the communities of today, and the leaders of tomorrow, embodies our vision of impactful leadership and positive change in this region and beyond. About the Honoree

About the Honoree - Diane Tipton ('98)

Diane Tipton (’98) has shown a great commitment and caring for her community, with a particular passion for women in leadership and affordable housing.

A member of the Signature Program Class of 1998, Diane exemplifies the LGW vision of collaboration and positive community impact. A lifelong Girl Scout, meeting a fellow LGW member provided her the connection that led to serving fifteen years on the Board of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital, the last six years as its President. Diane currently serves on the National Board Development Committee and the National Board of Girl Scouts of the USA. She considers her role on the National Board “an ultimate dream job” at an organization that is “creating the women leaders of tomorrow”. Diane is passionate about promoting the Gold Award, the highest award a girl can achieve in Girl Scouting.

Diane has also shown extraordinary commitment to Jubilee Housing, an organization dedicated to the creation of justice housing - deeply affordable housing with onsite and nearby services in thriving communities. She served for 30 years as a board member, past president, and council of Advisors for the Jubilee Support Alliance. Most recently, Diane served on the Justice Housing Partners Fund Leadership Team helping Jubilee to raise $5.3M in impact investment funds, which allowed the organization to acquire four properties that will lead to 120 new units of deeply affordable housing.

In addition to her work with the Girl Scouts and Jubilee Support Alliance, Diane is currently on the Advisory Board of Cubesmart, the 4th largest Self Storage REIT. She also serves as Treasurer of a nonprofit senior living community, Sherburne Commons, in Nantucket. She is a 2009 recipient of the “Women Who Mean Business” Award, and has served on the Board as well as Membership Committee Chair and Celebration of Leadership Host Committee Chair of Leadership Greater Washington.

Diane is the co-founder, CEO and President of Self Storage Zone, where she has developed self- storage facilities in the Washington Metropolitan Region for the past 27 years. Along with her partners, she has developed, owned and managed over 3,100,000 square feet in 28 self-storage projects in Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia, New York, and New Jersey.
